Founded in 1926, The Saint Sebastian Society is affiliated with Our Lady of Mt.Carmel Church, Montclair. This spirited Parish was founded in 1907 as a small wooden structure to serve the religious and cultural needs of the Italian Immigrants flowing into Montclair. In 1937, a beautiful new Church was finished and still stands proudly on Pine Street, Montclair, built in the Italian Gothic style. Several other Mutual Aid Societies, in addition to The Saint Sebastian Society, assisted the Parish in its early founding years. They were the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society, for which the Parish was named after. The Saint Donato Society and The Saint Rocco Society (Both no longer exist and dissolved during the early years of the Parish). The Saint Vito Society, was formed in the late 1960's and still supports the Parish as a mutual aid society along with The Saint Sebastian Society. The Parish, although serving a multi-cultural congregation, still remains a strong pillar of Italian Catholic Tradition in the 4th Ward section of the town of Montclair. It has thru the grace of God and dedication of many members of the Parish, revived the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel FEAST, which is celebrated in July closest to the 16th. Revived in 2007, it is reminiscent of the "Old Days" when the Feast was at its pinnacle. The Church proudly has The Feasts of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Saint Sebastian celebrated every July and August with colorful Processions, Rides, Great Italian Foods and heartfelt religious devotion. SEE LINK FOR WEBSITE BELOW
